Fashions Flawless Cultures

I was asked to create three peices in which I was to investigate a specific topic that is prominent in all these peices. I decided to research different cultures and unleash the fabulosity prominent in each specific culture. The three cultures I focused my attention on are a Boho-Chic style, a fashion style influenced by the African American culture and a trend influenced by the Asian culture. All of these cultures are distinguished in there own manner by a certain use of colors, fabric and manipulation of the fabric to create a individual and eye-captivating sense of style.

Deviation From The Norm

The steps in which I took to finalize this process are purposeful in every way. I manipulated the picture by using tools such as Photo Shop and the technique of a silk screen transfer. The original photo is one of 2 girls who are standing in a very effercesvent poise and are surrounded but luxury items such as the garments they are wearing and the environment around them. I subtracted all emotion from the image by incorporating simplicity and condensing all the details into the negative and positive spaces to recreate the image. Then photo copied the image onto a acetate sheet and then did the steps to transform the image onto a silk screen board. After getting familiar with the process by printing the image many times and experimenting with different color schemes, I decided on a linear arrangement of my figure. The colors I chose are also purposeful, with the dramatic contrast that lie between the yellow and rose pink. What I am trying to communicate through this work is how the eye is still attracted to simplicity. Also how conformity within society is not admired but the deviation from normality to express ones individual unique self is the true beauty of ones life. To prevent the harshness from reality, you can still incorporate the daily fashion trends in ones appearance yet use manipulation to your advantage and create a whole new definition to individualism.
